Our History
Wildwood Farm
Established in 1965, Wildwood Farm was involved in the business/sport of owning, breeding and/or racing thoroughbred horses. It quickly became one of Washington’s largest thoroughbred farms and established itself as one of the premier thoroughbred services/racing businesses in the state. Owned and Operated by Bill and Barbara Black, Wildwood housed some of the well known stallions and race horses to race at Long Acres track in Seattle, Wa. Some of the many studs that stood at Wildwood Farm, ‘Gallant Best’, ‘Crocation’, ‘Emperor’s Key’, ‘Handsome One’, Super Pleasure’, ‘Capt. Don’ and who could forget ‘Pirateer’ all big stakes winners, all creating the history of Wildwood Farm. Long Acres track was closed in 1992 after sixty seasons of racing. Emerald Downs, the Northwest’s new track would not open until June, 1996. Wildwood as well as many other thoroughbred farms were sold off and the racing industry came to a halt for the long three years.
The Last 9 years
Wildwood Farm was purchased in 2003 and made into a “Center for Horsemanship”. With its rolling hills, lush pastures and serene beauty it is a perfect get away for both man and their equine friends. The farm features horse boarding, horse instruction, horse training, summer camps for adults and kids. It is an 80 acre spread that has 2 indoor arenas, outdoor arena, covered round pen, tack store and saddlery and a bed and breakfast. Today you can sit on the deck or in the hot tub and look over the large pastures with the resident horses grazing, the mama’s and the babies playing in the sun. We have hosted weddings, corporate parties, birthday parties and almost anything you can think off….
